PGT window installation in San Antonio typically runs between $85 and $160 per opening for a straightforward replacement of a failed part or sash component, with full window replacements starting around $450 per window installed. We keep common PGT hardware, balances, rollers, and weatherstripping on our trucks, so most repairs happen the same visit. You usually notice the problem before you can name it: a window that suddenly drops when you open it, a sash that scrapes the frame, or a corner that lets afternoon heat bleed through. That west-facing glass takes a beating here, and after a few San Antonio summers, the small parts inside the frame give out long before the glass itself does.
We’re not affiliated with PGT as a manufacturer service arm. We’re an independent San Antonio window company that installs and services PGT products every week, along with CGI, CWS, and ES Windows. What that means for you: we match parts to your exact series and year, and we tell you honestly when a part is worth replacing versus when the whole window has run its course.
Which PGT Models This Applies To
PGT builds several lines, and the parts are not interchangeable across all of them. The most common series we see in San Antonio homes are the WinGuard impact-rated line, the SpectraGuard vinyl series, and the older Eze-Breeze and ClassicVue models still working in homes built in the 1990s and early 2000s. Each series uses different balance systems, different sash corner hardware, and different weatherstripping profiles. That matters because the internet will happily sell you a “PGT-compatible” balance that doesn’t fit your window’s weight rating or shoe profile.
How to identify what you have: open the sash and look at the top edge or the side rail. PGT stamps a manufacturing code on most vinyl and aluminum extrusions, usually a string of letters and numbers that includes the series abbreviation. If you can’t find it, take a photo of the window from the outside and one of the hardware you’re having trouble with. Keith Yamada reads those stamps the way a mechanic reads a VIN, and he’s been sorting PGT hardware since before the current WinGuard series hit Texas homes. If you’re not sure which series you own, send us a photo and we’ll tell you what fits and what doesn’t before anyone drives out.
On OEM versus aftermarket: for PGT specifically, we recommend OEM balances and tilt latches. PGT uses a proprietary shoe profile on their vinyl balance systems, and the aftermarket “universal” versions we’ve tested either bind in the track or wear out within a year. For weatherstripping and glazing bead, a quality aftermarket part is fine and often cheaper. We’ll show you both prices and let you decide.
Key compatibility note: WinGuard impact windows require the original PGT balance with the exact weight rating. The glass in those units is heavy, and an under-rated balance is what causes a sash to slam closed. That’s a hand injury waiting to happen on a window over a kitchen counter where kids stand.

Signs Your PGT Window Installation Is Failing
- The sash drops or won’t stay up. This is a failed balance system, almost always. Vinyl balances lose tension slowly, so you may have propped the window with a stick for months before calling. The spring inside the balance has a finite number of open-close cycles, and a window that’s been used daily in a busy San Antonio kitchen for ten years is simply done.
- The window scrapes or binds when you slide it. Usually a worn roller on the bottom of the sash or grit in the track. San Antonio’s limestone dust and construction debris work into the aluminum track, and once the roller bearing flattens, you’re dragging metal on metal. That’s when you hear the scrape.
- You can feel hot air leaking around the edges when closed. Compression weatherstripping on PGT windows flattens with heat exposure. After five to seven San Antonio summers, the vinyl foam loses its rebound and doesn’t press against the sash anymore. In August, you can feel it with the back of your hand.
- The window won’t catch when you tilt it in for cleaning. The tilt latches on PGT vinyl sashes use a spring-loaded plastic tab. It’s the cheapest part on the window, and it breaks first. We replace more tilt latches than any other PGT part, because they take the most stress from kids yanking the sash in and out of the tilt position.
- Condensation fogs inside the glass unit. This is a failed seal on the insulated glass, not a hardware fix. On PGT WinGuard units, the seal carries a manufacturer warranty, and we’ll help you determine if a claim is worth pursuing versus replacing the sash outright. Most San Antonio homeowners find the claim process takes longer than a sash replacement, but we lay out both timelines.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
Here’s what we charge in San Antonio for the most common PGT parts, installed:
| Part | Installed Price Range |
|---|---|
| Tilt latch (pair) | $35 – $70 |
| Weatherstripping (full window) | $60 – $120 |
| Balance replacement (per sash) | $85 – $160 |
| Roller replacement (per pair) | $75 – $140 |
| Full window replacement (installed) | $450 – $1,200+ depending on size and series |
Every price includes the part, the labor, and the clean-up. If we need a part that isn’t on the truck, we tell you before we leave and give you the exact installed price in writing. No “we’ll have to see how it goes” language. Keith’s rule, which the whole crew follows, is that the number you agree to is the number you pay, even if the job takes longer than expected. Every repair is backed by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the part fails or the window still isn’t right within a year, we come back and fix it at no charge.
DIY or Call Us?
Replacing PGT tilt latches and weatherstripping is a genuinely easy job if you have the right part and a flathead screwdriver. If your window is off-track or the sash won’t stay up, there’s torsion and tension involved, and the balance system is under load. We’ve seen what happens when a homeowner pulls a PGT balance out without releasing the tension, and the lesson usually costs a finger or a broken pane. We’d say it plainly: anything involving the balance, the spring, or the cables should be handled by someone who’s done it before.
What you can safely do today: close the window, lock it, and check the weatherstripping with your hand on a hot afternoon. If you feel a draft, write down which window it is. Then call us at (325) 420-4173. We’ll ask for the window’s location in the house, what you felt, and the PGT stamp if you can find it. That call costs you nothing and tells us whether to bring a part or bring a whole window.
A well-fitted window does its work quietly, you only notice it when the room finally feels right. That’s the standard we’re after on every PGT install in San Antonio.
FAQs
PGT vinyl balances typically last 8 to 12 years in San Antonio’s climate, and they fail faster on west-facing windows where afternoon heat shortens the spring’s cycle life. A window that faces the setting sun may need balances every 7 to 9 years, while a shaded north window might go 15. Call (325) 420-4173 and we’ll tell you if your symptom matches a balance issue or something simpler.
Most PGT window parts are replacement items, not repairable ones. The tilt latch is a one-piece plastic molding, the balance is a sealed spring unit, and the weatherstripping is extruded foam. We rarely patch; we replace with the correct part, because that’s what actually lasts. A phone call to (325) 420-4173 with a photo of the broken part gets you a straight answer on what’s repairable.
A typical PGT part replacement takes 20 to 45 minutes per window once we’re on site. If a sash needs to be removed and rebuilt, it’s closer to an hour. We schedule a two-hour arrival window and call when we’re 20 minutes out, so you’re not waiting around on a school day.
We stock the most common PGT parts on our trucks: tilt latches, weatherstripping profiles, rollers, and balances for the current WinGuard and SpectraGuard series. Niche parts or older Eze-Breeze hardware are special-ordered, and we give you the lead time and exact pricing before anything is ordered. Call (325) 420-4173 with your PGT stamp handy and we’ll tell you if it’s on the shelf.
